Alabama Jubilee Daylily is perfect for the midsummer garden. With a long bloom time and deep-green, strappy leaves that look good from spring to fall, Alabama Jubilee gives a lot of enjoyment with minimal effort. The substantial 4-inch flowers are an intense red-orange color and are a great companion to other bold summer perennials such as ornamental grasses, Rudbeckias, and Coreopsis. Modern varieties of Hemerocallis are meant to be grown in full sun and keep their leaves green far longer into late summer. Hemerocallis Alabama Jubilee is an excellent plant for growing in drifts for high impact or for planting individually in a container in a small garden. The hot-orange color of the flowers can be used to anchor a bed of other hot-hued plants or make a subtle contrast with cooler-colored plants of blue and purple. The large clusters of flowers and decorative leaves are not only rabbit and deer resistant, but also less susceptible to fungal rust or powdery mildew late in the summer. Alabama Jubilee Daylily Care Daylilies are herbaceous perennials that prefer neutral soil pH, poor to average soil nutrition, and medium water amounts. Well-draining soil is a must throughout the summer and winter. Older varieties of Daylily are more tolerant of semi-shaded spots. Alabama Jubilee is a new type that needs as much sun as possible. Full sun or at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day encourages heavy blooming and keeps the foliage deep green longer in the summer. Once Daylily becomes well established, supplemental watering can be scaled back to only during drought and high-heat episodes. Alabama Jubilee Daylily will produce more flowers when the spent blooms are removed regularly. Carefully remove only the dead flower petals without disturbing the new, developing buds. Do not cut the foliage back after blooming during the summer. Daylily needs the leaves to continue feeding the plant roots and preparing for winter dormancy. Cut back the plant to within 4 inches from the ground after all the leaves have died. This helps to remove any pests or diseases that could overwinter on the plant. Mulch with fine arborist chips or organic compost for the winter. Daylilies growing in containers should also be cut back to the top of the pot in winter. Ensure the container is in an area with good drainage and is out of the path of prevailing winds or storms during the winter. Alabama Jubilee Daylily Spacing Alabama Jubilee Daylily is a moderate grower that needs to be divided every 3-4 years. The mature height is 36 inches with a width of 24 inches. Space these perennials 24 inches apart on center when planting together. Choose a pot at least 10 inches in diameter for container growing.
