Plant this shrub in well-draining, slightly acidic soil that has been amended with garden compost or well-rotted manure. Blue Mist Dwarf Fothergilla will become more drought tolerant once fully established. This low-maintenance shrub is generally pest- and disease-free. Provide a layer of mulch around the base of the plant about 2-3 inches thick to help protect the roots from extremely cold temperatures. If you live in a cold climate with icy winds, additional winter protection such as wrapping the shrubs with burlap may be necessary to prevent windburn.
